Assessment & Evaluation

An assessment or evaluation involves administering a set of measures or tests designed to ascertain a variety of disorders and clinical presentations. These include diagnoses such as Learning Disabilities/Disorders, ADHD, Autism, Speech/Language Issues, Cognitive Impairment, Social/Emotional/Behavioral Issues, and more. An assessment/evaluation report may grant a student access to resources, including but not limited to, accommodations, interventions, medical support, and government assistance, provided that certain qualifications are met. Even if you are unsure of what issues you or your child(ren) are presenting with, please feel free to reach out for a free 15 minute consultation. Dr. Josie will be happy to assist you with understanding what you or your child(ren) may need. Evaluations are provided for children as young as 6 years old to young adults attending college.

School Neuropsychological Evaluations
A school neuropsychological evaluation allows us to not only assess the “what” but also understand the “why“ behind a student’s difficulties in school. This assessment involves looking at all areas of the brain to determine the factors that might be contributing to various issues such as a lack of focus, learning problems, developmental delays, memory deficits, language issues, processing speed weaknesses, nonverbal learning difficulties, social issues, emotional dysregulation, and behavior problems. This allows for solutions that are specifically targeted to areas of weakness to improve overall academic success, mental health, and even physical health outcomes.

Psychoeducational Evaluations
This evaluation is focused specifically on the “what“ regarding a student’s presentation. It involves an intellectual assessment, academic achievement measures, and social/emotional/behavioral scales to identify what psychological disorders may be interfering with a student’s academic success.

Gifted/Intelligence Testing
This evaluation is used to assess whether children qualify for gifted programs based on qualifications set by the School Board of Broward County, FL. Recommendations are provided based on the student’s performance on an intellectual assessment measure. (Requirements vary per county and may also involve academic testing component).

ADHD Screener Testing
This is a basic screener used to assess for the presence of symptoms commonly associated with ADHD presentations. This screener should not be used independently to make clinical decisions and does not result in formal diagnoses. However, this information can and will be incorporated in a full evaluation should parents/individuals opt to progress with more thorough assessment testing based on initial results.

Academic Testing
This covers basic academic testing to determine whether a student is performing at grade level. This assessment may be necessary or required if a student is seeking admission to a new school that requires assessment of their academic skills, children in a homeschooling environment, students making a transition from another state or country, among other situations. This screener should not be used independently to make clinical decisions and does not result in formal diagnoses. However, this information can and will be incorporated in a full evaluation should parents/individuals opt to progress with more thorough assessment testing based on initial results.
